The Award
The John Olver Character Coach Award is named after John Olver who best exemplified the Christian principles of serving, excellence, dedication, and love, both on and off the ice. John Olver is a professional, collegiate, junior and prep coach whose coaching career spanned over 40 years during which he impacted thousands of players. John’s desire to impact lives was best demonstrated by his commitment to move to Alexandria, Minnesota in 2018 to start the Northstar Knights Prep Hockey Academy. While serving at Northstar and FCA Hockey he studied and led classes on the principles of transformational coaching. He believes that the first step to becoming a transformational coach is for the coach to experience transformational change in his or her own life. This award recognizes a transformational hockey coach who exemplifies strong Christian principles and has impacted the lives of countless players on and off the ice.
FCA presents this award annually at the American Hockey Coaches Association’s (AHCA) National Convention.
